Finance Buisness Partner

Why Join M+J?

M+J Builders is a family-owned Tier 2 builder specialising in complex Defence and government projects across the Northern Territory. Our business is built on respect, integrity, and trust—and we’re proud to offer our people genuine support, flexibility, and career growth.

We’re looking for a Finance Business Partner who’ll sit at the centre of how our projects perform — someone who understands that strong financial control on live jobs protects both cash flow and margin.

This isn’t a back-office reporting role. It’s a hands-on position that works closely with project managers and the delivery team to keep forecasts accurate, claims and invoicing on track, and cash flow steady. You’ll be the connection point between finance and delivery, bringing structure, discipline, and clarity to the numbers that drive decisions every day.

About You

You’re a practical finance professional who enjoys being close to the action, not hidden behind spreadsheets. You understand how delivery works, you can read a project situation quickly, and you’re comfortable challenging numbers when they don’t stack up. You’ll need at least five years’ experience in a similar role, CPA or CA qualified, and be confident leading conversations that keep people accountable.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Own the claims and invoicing rhythm across all projects, ensuring deadlines are met and cash flow stays predictable
  • Keep cash flow forecasts accurate and up to date, based on what’s really happening on site
  • Run monthly reviews with project managers to test assumptions, adjust forecasts, and protect margin
  • Align project milestones with billing triggers so productivity supports financial outcomes
  • Make sure Procore and finance data match — no lag, no guesswork
  • Spot opportunities to tighten up processes and improve system integrity
  • Lead the Financial Planning & Analysis function, including budgeting, forecasting and reporting within defined timeframes
  • Provide support to project teams on project budgets, performance reporting, and finance queries in Procore
  • Conduct monthly one-on-one sessions with Project Managers to ensure forecast accuracy and challenge assumptions
  • Review business costs, drive savings, and maintain accurate costings to support estimating and tender submissions
  • Support the Financial Accountant with end-of-month processes, reconciliations, and EOFY close
  • Deliver weekly cash flow forecasting and provide analysis to support strategic decisions
  • Facilitate finance meetings with the management team to support performance and risk discussions
  • Maintain timely and accurate financial data to support business decision-making and success
  • Ensure claims and invoicing are completed within 3 days of month-end
  • Support internal audits to improve system integrity across finance and Procore

What You’ll Bring

  • CPA or CA qualified, with 5+ years in a Finance Business Partner or similar role
  • Strong commercial and analytical skills, with a focus on margin and cash flow
  • Confident working alongside project teams in a delivery environment
  • Proficiency in project-based financial systems (Procore experience a plus)
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills across all levels of the business
  • White Card, driver’s licence, and ability to obtain a Police Clearance

Package & Benefits

  • Competitive salary based on experience
  • Laptop, iPhone, and tools provided
  • Career growth into senior commercial leadership roles
  • Supportive and accountable culture with strong systems and structure
